Supreme Political Council emphasizes rule of law, judiciary independence

SANAA, Oct. 28 (YPA) – The Supreme Political Council in its meeting Monday chaired by President Mahdi al-Mashat emphasized the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary to ensure the rights of citizens and maintain security and stability.

The meeting, which was attended by Head of the Supreme Judicial Council Judge Ahmed Yahya al-Mutwakil and Attorney General Judge Nabil Nasser al-Azzani, discussed the level of performance in the judiciary and the justice system.

The meeting dealt with the circumstances of releasing some of the defendants in the case of the presidential mosque bombing in 2011 and the measures taken by the Judicial Council.

In this regard, the meeting urged that investigations into the release of some defendants in the case should be completed, stressing the importance of taking firm measures against anyone who violated the legal procedures or bypassed the judicial process.

The Supreme Political Council also stressed the commitment to transparency in investigations to preserve the prestige of the judiciary.
