Germany halts arms exports to Turkey due to its operations in Syria
SANAA, Oct. 17 (YPA) – German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, said that her country will not deliver any weapons to Turkey and demand to stop the military operation launched by Ankara in northern Syria, according to Reuters agency.
“The Turkish military operation in Syria will lead to a humanitarian tragedy with great geopolitical consequences, so Germany will stop exporting arms to Turkey, and we will discuss the EU-wide arms embargo at today’s meeting,” Merkel said.
The German Foreign Minister Haikou Mas announced that the German government will stop arms exports to Turkey, against the backdrop of the military launched by Ankara against Kurdish positions in northeastern Syria.
“Based on Turkey’s military offensive in northeastern Syria, the federal government will not issue new permits to export weapons and military equipment that Turkey can use in Syria,” Mas was quoted by the Bild en Zontag newspaper as saying.
The Turkish regime has launched an aggression against a number of villages and towns in the countryside of al-Hasakah and Raqqa in northern and eastern Syria, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of civilians, including children, women and workers in the service sectors, and significant material damage in service facilities and important infrastructure such as dams, power plants and water.
