19 killed, thousands displaced by floods in western India
SANAA, Sept. 27 (YPA) – Floods and torrential rains in India’s western city of Pune have killed 19 people and left nine missing, police said on Friday.
Nineteen people were killed in the rain, which also flooded 2,000 vehicles on the city’s roads and car parks in the past two days, Xinhua news agency quoted a police official as saying.
The police official said about 15,000 people had been relocated from the lowlands of Paramati, a sub-district of Pune, to a safe place after flooding from a nearby dam.
The rainy season in India between July and September usually causes deaths and mass displacement.
