Agriculture Minister stresses doubling efforts to develop agricultural sector

SANAA, Sept. 18 (YPA) – Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Abdul Malik al-Thaur stressed on Wednesday the need to pay attention to the agricultural sector to develop the Yemeni national economy.

The minister said, during a platform held by the Information Ministry, that providing food security is the biggest challenge in Yemen, especially in light of the aggression and blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.

Al-Thaur affirmed that the agricultural sector needs job opportunities for more than 50 percent of the workforce in the country.

He pointed out that Yemen’s productivity of food crops, vegetables and fruits has increased recently despite the obstacles faced by the sector due to the aggression and the siege.
