Update: UAE-backed militias suffer heavy casualties in Shabwah

SHABAWH, Aug. 24 (YPA) – The exiled Hadi’s forces have taken control over Thamad military camp belonging to the Southern transitional Council’s militias and (Shabwanian Elite forces) funded by the UAE occupation forces in Shabwah province, southern informed sources reported on Saturday.

According to southern sources, at least three of the UAE-backed militias and (Shabwanian Elite forces) were killed and more than a dozen, including senior leaders, were injured in renewed violent clashes in the city of Ataq, the center of Shabwah province, between the STC’s militias on the one hand and the exiled Hadi’s forces on the other.

The sources added that the local authority in the province has imposed a curfew inside Ataq city until 8:00 a.m. Saturday, and pointed out that the city hospital came under fire after the UAE-backed militias took the hospital as a front line to defend.

The clashes between the two sides led the exiled Hadi’s forces taking control of Ataq, while Hadi’s government accused the leadership of the UAE forces in the provincial city of Balhaf of blowing up the situation despite the Saudi efforts to de-escalate the military.

In a statement issued by a council spokesman on Friday, the UAE-backed Transitional Council called for a ceasefire in the City of Ataq, the center of Shabwah province, after its militias failed to storm and control the city.
