UN Humanitarian Coordinator releases statement on “horrific attack” on popular market in Saada

SANAA, July 31 (YPA) – The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, on Monday issued a statement on Saudi-led coalition’s bombing of a popular market in Saada province, which left 40 civilians dead and wounded.

“The horrific attack on al-Thabet market in Qutaber district of Saada province have killed and wounded scores of innocent civilians, including children,” Lise Grande said .

“Preliminary reports from local health authorities indicate that 14 people died, including four children, and 26, including 14 children, were injured in the market attack,” she said.

“The injured, including children, have been rushed to hospitals in Saada and Sanaa for treatment,” she said, adding that health partners provided medical supplies to the facilities.

“Health partners have provided supplies to medical facilities that have received the wounded, including ambulance teams to treat more than 100 injured people,” the UN Humanitarian Coordinator added.

she described the coalition’s bombing of the market as “a bad turn of events in Saada.

“This is a terrible turn of events. For three months, the number of reported civilian casualties in Saada has been falling,” said Ms. Grande.

“Ending the fighting and the killing of civilians is the highest priority,” she concluded.
