Trump’s administration to send US military reinforcements to Saudi Arabia

SANAA, July 18 (YPA) – President Donald Trump’s Administration is preparing to send reinforcements of hundreds of troops to Saudi Arabia soon, CNN reported, quoting Pentagon officials as saying.

About 500 U.S. troops would head to Prince Sultan Air Base, east of Riyadh, CNN said.

According to CNN sources, there are currently a small number of military personnel and support personnel preparing for preparing for the installation of a Patriot air defense system, as well as the improvement of the runway and the airport.

Trump’s administration announced in June that it would send an additional 1,000 troops to the Middle East because of the tense situation with Iran.

The Pentagon also said that to strengthen its deployment in the Middle East, patriot air defense, manned and unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, as well as fighter jets, would be deployed.

However, it was not clear where U.S. military reinforcements would be directed, and Pentagon officials noted that troops destined for Saudi Arabia are part of this deployment.

The sources confirmed that Congress has not been formally notified of the administration’s plans, although, according to an official, Congress has been notified informally, and the announcement is expected next week.

The Pentagon has so far declined to comment on the deployment of U.S. military units to Saudi Arabia, and the kingdom has not announced the arrival of a U.S. military force in the country.
