Official loyal to coalition assassinated in Bayda

BAYDA, June 8 (YPA) – Unknown gunmen on Saturday assassinated an official in the coalition–backed government in Bayda province, centre of Yemen, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.

According to the sources, the unknown gunmen opened fire on Mohammed al-Rasas, the director of Maswrah district, killing him instantly.

It is believed that assassination of Al-Rasas came on the drop back of conflict between the coalition rival forces, in which he was working for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupation forces.

“The UAE is struggling to extend its influence in the province on the expense of Islah party militias allied with the Saudis,” one of the sources said.

The sources added that “the Islah party is behind the assassination of “al-Rasas” due to the activity of the latter in order to enable the groups belonging to the UAE occupation in Bayda province.”
