Protesters block streets in Mukalla city amid clashes with UAE-backed security forces

MUKALLA, May 28 (YPA) – Dozens of Protesters in city of Mukalla have blocked the main streets in the city in a protest against the continued deterioration of public services and constant power outages, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.

According to the sources, the angry protesters have cut off the road in the al-Salam neighborhood of Mukalla on Monday night, demanding the release of several young men who were arrested by occupation forces earlier.

The sources indicated that a military pickup and a troop carrier had arrived at the scene and fired live bullets into the crowd in an attempt to disperse demonstrators.
Subsequently, clashes broke out between the demonstrators and the security forces, one of the sources said.

Observers fear that the protests could develop into a popular revolution following, due to the deterioration of services in the city and the inability of the local authorities to hold the coalition-backed government accountable for their degradation.
