SANAA, May 24 (YPA) – The Youth and Sports Fund in Sanaa is to resume its activities in support of sports and youth activities on Saturday, May 25, after a period of suspension.
In an exclusive interview with Yemen Press Agency, the Fund’s Executive Director Ali Al-Qassimi said that the suspension of fund’s functions was based on directives from President of the Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat to the Ministry of Finance and in light of the recommendations and decisions of the Yemeni Parliament on the expenditure plan for the year 2019, with a view to correcting imbalances in the Fund, developing a well-planned expenditure strategy and supporting activity in accordance with the objectives for which the Fund was established.
“Previous administrations during the period from 2000 to 2015 contributed to channeling the Fund’s resources and expenditures into the wrong place,” al-Qassimi said.
Al-Qassimi explained that that had led to the disruption of some of the Fund objectives and spending its funds outside the framework of legal objectives, which reflected negatively on the reality of sports and youth activity.
He pointed out that the Youth and Sports Fund has a law and an executive regulation defining its objectives, resources and how to manage it.
