SANAA, May 1 (YPA) – The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that “Russian anti-aircraft missile systems used by Venezuelan troops will not hinder any possible US military operation against President Nicolás Maduro.
“I think no one should make a mistake, if the United States takes such a decision, if the military solution is chosen, the US military will be able to carry out the process to achieve result that the president wants,” Pompeo told CNN.
Over the past two months, Venezuela has witnessed a severe political crisis after Juan Quaido declared himself interim president with the support of Washington, in light of the protests against the legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro, which has been going on since January 26.
In an escalation of events in Venezuela, the security forces attempted to disperse riots in front of La Carlota air base.
Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Quaido on Tuesday called for a military uprising against, President Nicolás Maduro while armed factions exchanged gunfire outside an airbase in Caracas, while Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino described the event as a “coup d’état.
