Ministry of Human Rights Holds Security Council Responsible for Raping Women

SANAA, April 30 (YPA) – The Ministry of Human Rights in the national Salvation government held the security and Human Rights Council “responsible for all the crimes and serious violations committed by Saudi-led aggression coalition against women and girls in Yemen, especially in Hodeidah.”

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that one of the Sudanese coalition mercenaries (Janjaweed) had raped and stabbed a fifty- year old woman from Tuhita district of Hodeidah province.

“This is a war crime in international law,” the statement read.

The ministry said that “the crime is enshrined in the Statute of the International Criminal Court and contravenes the UN Charter and Security Council resolution 1325 (2000), which calls for ensuring women’s safety, security and peace in their public environment, as well as the four Geneva Conventions which stipulate that women must be protected against any attack on their honor. ”

The statement of the Ministry reiterated its calls on the Security Council “to fulfill its duty and responsibility to stop the aggression immediately, to break the siege, and to establish an independent and impartial international fact-finding commission to investigate all crimes and violations committed by the coalition in Yemen, including the crimes of rape, abduction and systematic torture”.
