Airstrikes hit Libyan capital Tripoli
SANAA, April 28 (YPA) – The Libyan capital, Tripoli, was attacked by Libyan fighter jets led by Khalifa Hafer on Saturday night.
“We hear continuous and uninterrupted rounds (machine guns and anti-aircraft rounds) and air strikes from time to time, but we do not know exactly where,” the AFP news agency quoted a resident of the far west of Tripoli.
The exact locations of the raids were not identified but journalists at the AFP news agency in the center of the capital heard at midnight several large explosions accompanied by the roar of aircraft flying into the sky.
Since April 4, the Libyan National Army, led by Marshal Khalifa Hafer, has launched an offensive against the Libyan capital, the headquarters of the national reconciliation government.
At least 278 people were killed and 1332 wounded and 38,900 displaced, according to the United Nations.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Thursday expressed concern over the intensification of fighting in Libya and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Tripoli, where “residential areas are gradually becoming battlefields.”
