6 wounded by suicide bombing near Afghan Election Commission

SANAA, Oct. 29 (YPA) – Six people were wounded, including members of the security forces on Monday in a suicide attack which targeted the headquarters of the Electoral Commission in the Afghan capital Kabul.

A spokesman of the Kabul police, Basir Mujahid, said that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who was to target a minibus of the Independent Election Commission “IEC”, but fortunately the police identified him and blew himself up 15 meters from the minibus.

At least four officials of (IEC) and two policemen were wounded in the attack, Mujahid added.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the armed groups, led by the Taliban, have previously rejected what they called “the play of elections” and vowed to target workers in this area.

Election centers in Afghanistan opened their doors to voters, marking the start of legislative elections in 33 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.
