KINGSTON, April 24 (YPA) – Jamaica’s government announced on Wednesday the recognition of the State of Palestine, as confirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith.

“We continue to call for a two-state solution as the only viable option to resolve the long-standing conflict, ensure Israel’s security and support the dignity and rights of Palestinians,” Smith said following deliberations in her country’s cabinet, adding that Jamaica strengthens its call for a peaceful solution by recognizing the State of Palestine.”

She explained that the decision would be in line with Jamaica’s strong commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, which seeks to generate mutual respect and peaceful coexistence between countries, as well as recognition of the rule of international law and the right of peoples to self-determination.
