US moves carrier from Gulf in sign to ease tensions with Iran

SANAA, Feb. 4 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden’s administration has pulled an aircraft carrier out of the Gulf in a sign of potentially easing tensions with Iran, which had soared under former president Donald Trump.

The US does not plan to send an aircraft carrier instead of the one withdrawn from the Gulf, a Pentagon official said Wednesday, in what he described as “a strong signal of calm with Tehran.”

“Of course, we announce the departure of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier from the Gulf after nine months of deployment,” a Pentagon official told AFP.

“The Nimitz carrier is leaving central command responsibility, which covers the entire Middle East,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said.
