Armed confrontations renew between Islah, STC in Abyan

ABYAN, Oct. 21 (YPA) – The armed confrontations renewed Wednesday between Islah Party militants and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’ militia in Abyan province, south of Yemen.

Field sources confirmed that various types of heavy weapons were used during the intermittent confrontations, amid an exchange of artillery shelling, east of Zenjbar city, the provincial capital.

The confrontations left dead and wounded on both sides, the sources added, without giving further details.

The Islah militants tended to put pressure on the STC by opening a new front in Tor al-Baha area in Lahj province, 80 kilometers north of Aden province.

Islah party seeks to besiege Aden from the northwest through Lahj front, while it is pushing military reinforcements to the coastal Shoqra front in Abyan, east of Aden.
