SANAA, Oct. 5 (YPA) – German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas confirmed that the United States has lost the right to initiate the resumption of the United Nations embargo against Tehran, due to its withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran.
In an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed on the sidelines of the high-level United Nations General Assembly, which was held remotely in New York last week due to the Corona pandemic, Maas said: “Germany, France and the United Kingdom remain committed to preserving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and fully implementing it. “.
He continued: “Our position regarding the US embarking on the process of renewing the United Nations embargo against Iran is quite clear and only the participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action are allowed to notify the United Nations Security Council of any serious breach by Iran of its stipulated obligations in Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action
He stated that the United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018, thereby losing the right to initiate the resumption of the process of renewing the United Nations embargo against Iran.
He added, “We have taken note of the embargo measures that the US administration has imposed again on Iran and expressed our regret about that, and decided not to participate in its campaign aimed at exerting the maximum degree of pressure.”
He explained that the European Union embargo against Iran will remain raised to the extent permitted by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and this in turn also means that the arms embargo imposed by the European Union will remain in effect until 2023.
