Fierce clashes erupt between STC, Islah in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 9 (YPA) – On Sunday, Fierce armed clashes renewed on Sunday between the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias and Islah Party’s militants in Abyan province, southern Yemen.

“Violent clashes are taking place in the areas of al-Tariya, Wadi Sala, and east of Sheikh Salem, between the Islah militants and the STC militia,” sources said.

The sources added that the clashes led to the burning of two military armored vehicles belonging to the STC militias in the al-Tariya area.

Adel Al-Hasani, a leading member in the so-called “Southern Resistance affiliated with the Islah Party militia, said in a series of tweets on Twitter Sunday that ambulances took the dead and wounded of the STC militia to Al-Razi Hospital in Zenjbar city, and that the battle is continuing between the STC and Islah in al-Tariya and Wadi Sala.

Al-Hasani accused the STC of seeking to explode the military situation in Abyan in order to evade the withdrawal of his forces from Aden, as stipulated in the recent Riyadh agreement, as he said.
