23 killed, thousands displaced by floods in Nepal

SANAA, July 11 (YPA) – Officials in Nepal said on Saturday that torrential rains and landslides caused by torrential rains have killed at least 23 people and displaced thousands in the west of the country.
“Nine people were killed and more than 30 others were missing, as well as the destruction of some houses on Friday, and the number is expected to increase,” Reuters quoted Jian Nath Dakal, the governor of the Megajdi district, 200 km northwest of the capital, Kathmandu.

Another government official said seven people were killed in the neighboring Kasky region.

Seven others were killed in the westernmost district of Jajarkot.

“We are looking for eight people who are still missing,” said a senior police official.

Landslides and torrents are common in mountainous Nepal during the rainy season from June to September each year.
