Non-Aligned Movement condemns Trump’s decision on Golan Heights

SANAA, March 27 (YPA) -The Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in New York has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding the occupied Syrian Golan, asserting that it was arbitrary and illegal.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in New York, the Coordinating Bureau called on the United Nations Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and condemn the U.S. provocations, which constitute an escalation and grave violation of international law and the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and its relevant resolutions, especially Security Council resolution 497 from 1981.

The Coordinating Bureau referred to the final document of the Seventeenth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Venezuela in 2016, which affirmed that all actions taken by the Israeli occupation entity aimed at changing the situation, legal and demographic situation of the occupied Syrian Golan and its institutional status as well as Israeli measures to implement its mandate and administration are null and void and have no legal effect.

The statement noted that the leaders of the movement’s states and their heads of government demand that the Israeli occupation entity comply with Security Council resolution 497 to withdraw completely from the occupied Syrian Golan to the pre-1967 borders, in implementation of Security Council resolutions 242 and 338.
