ADEN, March 18 (YPA) – The Association of Mothers of Abductees in Aden city, southern Yemen, on Monday said that the UAE-backed militias in the administration of Bir Ahmed prison prevented prisoners’ relatives from visiting them for the second week in a row.
“The mothers were deprived of their sons, whom have been hidden for years behind bars and after dozens of them appeared in the prison,” the association said in a statement.
The prison administration arbitrarily prevented the detainees’ mothers from visiting their sons on Sunday to reassure them, after they prevented and assaulted them last week, the association added.
According to the statement, 85 of detainees have been arrested and jailed for three years without legal justification, and their detention periods were extended several times despite the issuance of orders to release a number of them by the Public Prosecution.
The Association held the prison’s administration and the interior minister in the exiled Hadi’s government responsible for lives and safety of all the detainees, demanding that the mothers of the abductees be allowed to visit their sons in a normal and continuous manner.
