Tuesday will be decisive day in prisoners file: Chief of Prisoners Affairs Committee
SANAA, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Chief of the National Committee for Prisoners Affairs Abdul-Qader al-Mortada on Sunday said that next Tuesday, February 12, would be a decisive day in the prisoners exchange file.
“The second round is still open until Tuesday, and that it is an opportunity for the parties to study and discuss a proposal provided by the United Nations,” said al-Mortada in a statement to Al-Masirah news website.
He added that the proposal would be announced at time because it is a conclusion and an outcome of the two rounds, and that “the fate of the proposal will be determined on Tuesday.”
Al-Mortada has already confirmed that the agreement on the prisoners file would be in stages, and that it is difficult to reach a comprehensive agreement because of some obstacles.
In this regard, Sanaa government suggested releasing 400 prisoners from both sides as a gesture to ensure the success of the prisoners exchange agreement, while Riyadh delegation rejected the proposal, amid Saudi and Emirati pressures to renounce the agreement.
After two rounds of talks between the parties to the conflict in Yemen on the implementation of the prisoner exchange agreement and finding a mechanism and timetable for the exchange of bodies, the file of consultations is still open.
