14 civilians killed in Takfirin attack in Burkina Faso
SANAA, Feb. 4 (YPA) – Fourteen civilians were killed on Monday in an attack attributed to Takfirin groups in northern Burkina Faso, an army statement said.
In response to the attack, the military launched military operations in three areas in the north of the country, killing 146 of Takfirin elements.
According to France-Presse Agence, the army’s communications director Colonel Lamosa Fofana said that “on the night of Sunday 3 to Monday 4 February 2019, a terrorist attack in Keen killed 14 civilian.”
“In response to this attack, the National Defense and Security Forces immediately launched operations in Keen town, Bana (Loreum district, north) and Bumboro (Kusi district, north-west),” Fofana said in a statement.
The statement pointed out that “the response of the defense and security forces through ground and air operation has killed 146 terrorists in the three areas.”
The attack in the town of Keen, in Yatina province , adjacent to Mali, is one of the most serious attacks in the country.
The attack comes on the eve of the five-nation summit of the Group of Five (Sahel) countries to be held Tuesday in Ouagadougou.
