Over 3,000 Bahraini citizens have been imprisoned since 2011: The Financial Times

SANAA, Oct. 30 (YPA) – Over 3,000 Bahraini citizens have been imprisoned since the outbreak of the popular uprising in 2011, according to a British report revealed On Monday.

“The Royal Family in Bahrain is holding about 3,000 opponents activists in its jails since the protests began in 2011,”, the  Financial Times’ report said.

The newspaper added that the UAE launched a crackdown on opponents who demanded democratic reforms and continued to arrest opponents and activists, whether Islamist or human rights, with a package of laws criminalizing the criticism of the regime even on social media platforms.

The report indicated that the assassination of Khashoggi paves the way for future reforms in the region.

The Saudi dissident Sa’ad al-Faqih, who has been living in London since 1994, pointed out that what happened could open the door to a major change in the country so that opponents would have a greater chance of freedom.
