UNRWA temporarily pulls some of its staff in Gaza Strip for security reasons

SANAA, Oct.2 (YPA) – The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced its decision to temporarily withdraw a number of its international staff from the Gaza Strip for security reasons.

The agency’s decision was due to the repeated “security disturbing incidents “for its workers in the Gaza Strip, the spokesman of UNRWA, Sami Mushasha said.

“The Director of UNRWA operations in Gaza and other international staff will remain on their jobs and UNRWA operations in Gaza will continue unabated,” he added.

On Monday, a number of our workers were harassed and prevented from carrying out their duties by individuals who protested against the recent actions taken as a result of the difficult financial situation of UNRWA and the repercussions on emergency services activities and programmes, Mushashar said.

He pointed out that some of the actions of individuals targeted the UNRWA administration in Gaza, calling on the local authorities in Gaza to respond to the agency’s repeated demands “to provide effective protection to the agency’s staff and its facilities.
