FM invites UN human rights chief to visit Yemen
SANAA, Sept. 12 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Wednesday invited the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, to visit Yemen to see the reality of the situation in the country.
This came in the minister’s letter directed to Bachelet on the occasion of assuming her new position, and handed to the Resident Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sanaa Dr. Al-Obaid Ahmed Al-Obaid.
In the letter, Sharaf confirmed readiness to cooperate with Bachelet in order to protect and enhance the human rights in Yemen and bring just peace to the Yemeni people.
He also expressed the national salvation government’s appreciation for the efforts made by the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Raad Al-Hussein.
The foreign minister also handed al-Obaid a letter to Bachelet and President and members of the Human Rights Council on the report of results reached by the regional and international experts team.
