France will invest more than $ 4 billion to modernize its military satellites

SANAA, Sep. 9 (YPA) – France will invest 3.6 billion Euros, about ($ 4.2 billion) to renovate and develop its military satellites to protect its network from potential spying by its rivals, French Defense Minister Florence Barley said on Tuesday.
“We will work on installing surveillance cameras in our satellites so we know who is approaching us,” she told France-based CNN News on Sunday.
The Minister said on Friday that France last year spotted attempts by Russia to intercept a military satellite used by France and Italy to secure communications.
The French minister also announced that the French government is building an aircraft carrier or two carriers to replace existing ones.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced his intention to develop a “defensive space strategy” for his country next year.
A working group of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces is due to submit proposals on that subject by November.
The French investment plan comes weeks after US President Donald Trump announced a plan to create a new US military branch known as the “space force” by 2020.
Washington has previously condemned the “abnormal behavior” of a “space object” launched by Russia in October 2017.
