Obama: Iran has ‘Veto Power’ over the Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 (YPA) – Former US President Barack Obama said Iran now has “veto power” over the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the war against Iran has depleted US missile stockpiles and driven up oil, diesel and gasoline prices, as well as the overall cost of living.

Obama questioned the outcome of the war seven months after US President Donald Trump declared “victory.” He noted that US allies and military bases had come under attack, while Americans had been killed and hundreds more wounded.

He said the impact of the war extended beyond military losses, with rising fuel prices and the cost of goods and services placing an additional financial burden on Americans.

Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy previously said that 70% of Americans oppose the war against Iran, describing it as “catastrophic.”

The criticism comes ahead of the US midterm elections on November 3, 2026. The elections will determine all seats in the House of Representatives, roughly one-third of the Senate seats, and the governorships of 36 states.
