Saudi authorities arrest preacher Nasser al-Omar in Mecca

SANAA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – Saudi authorities arrested on Saturday Sheikh Nasser Al-Omar, according to the account of the “prisoners of conscience” reported on Sunday.

“We have confirmed the arrest of Sheikh Nasser Al-Omar, a former university professor at the Faculty of Religion at al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, and his Twitter account has stopped posting tweets,” the account said.

The arrest of al-Omar comes as the Saudi authorities continue to arrest a group of prominent preachers, writers, and intellectuals in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi authorities had summoned al-Omar for an investigation and he made commitments not to interfere in the political issues in the last of September, the period that saw the largest wave of arrests in Saudi Arabia.
