Anti-Sanaa sheikh returns safely to his home in Mocha after leaving Taiz

TAIZ, Oct. 20 (YPA) – A tribal sheikh and prominent figure from the coastal city of Mocha city who opposes Sanaa forces returned to his home on Tuesday after leaving Taiz city safely, without being stopped by anyone.

Sheikh Khaled Al-Azaibi said in a video posted on his Facebook account that he had returned to his home in Mocha after exhausting all other options. He said no Sanaa forces had confronted him, despite his fighting alongside the Saudi-led coalition since the start of the war on Yemen.

Al-Azaibi explained that Sanaa forces controlling Mocha include people from Taiz, Lahj, and Hodeida, as well as other parts of Yemen, contrary to claims circulated by Saudi-affiliated media outlets.

He called on Saudi-backed leaders to reconsider their positions and stop involving citizens and their children in serving foreign agendas.

Al-Azaibi also suggested that Saudi-backed Salafi commander Hamdi Shukri had submitted to Ammar Afash, adding that the latter possessed files implicating Shukri in terrorism.

He described the military gains made by Sanaa forces on the western coast as a divine victory, attributing them to their conduct and what he called the just national cause they uphold, rather than foreign funding.

Al-Azaibi’s son was shot dead by forces led by Tariq Afash in August 2021. His brother was also assassinated. In addition, Al-Azaibi was arrested in Mocha early this year and transferred to a prison in Taiz.
