Belgium condemns Israeli settler attack on European diplomats near Ramallah, demands accountability

BRUSSELS, Oct. 18 (YPA) – Belgium has condemned an attack by Israeli settlers on a European diplomatic delegation, including representatives from France, Belgium, and Poland, in the town of Taybeh, northeast of Ramallah.

The incident resulted in damaged vehicle windows—including a car belonging to the Belgian Consulate—and a physical assault on a consul.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot called for holding those responsible accountable and ending the policy of impunity. He affirmed that Belgium will continue to work within the European Union to impose sanctions on violent settlers and the entities supporting them.

Prévot emphasized Belgium’s rejection of Israeli settlement expansion and attempts to displace Palestinians. He stressed that Israeli occupation authorities, as the occupying power, are obligated to protect Palestinians, diplomats, and journalists, and to bring perpetrators to justice.

The attack comes amid an escalation in Israeli settler attacks targeting Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest season in the West Bank, where the organization “Yesh Din” has documented at least 170 attacks since September 27.
