WEST BANK, Oct. 17 (YPA) – Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters and activists accompanying them on Saturday morning in the town of Deir Jarir, northeast of Ramallah.
Palestinian sources reported that the settlers, under the protection of Israeli forces, attacked farmers in the al-Hara’iq area east of the town and fired live ammunition in an attempt to intimidate them and prevent them from completing the olive harvest. The settlers then forced the farmers to leave their land.
On Friday, three Palestinians were injured in a settler attack on residents as they headed to their agricultural land in the town to harvest olives.
The Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission recorded 34 incidents of settler attacks targeting farmers, their land and crops between Friday morning and evening.
The commission said 15 incidents occurred in Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate, 13 in Nablus, two each in Salfit and Jenin, and one each in Tulkarm and Hebron.
The attacks included assaulting and beating olive harvesters, forcing them to leave their land, detaining and arresting them, stealing crops and equipment, and setting fire to vehicles and trees.
Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate witnessed widespread attacks in Turmus Ayya, Abu Falah, Burqa, Deir Jarir, Abwein, the area around Birzeit, and Barham, as well as in al-Taybeh, Rammoun and Kafr Ni’ma, amid escalating attacks on farmers during the olive harvest season.
