Israeli occupation demolishes “Martyrs’ Monument” inside Birzeit University

RAMALLAH, Oct. 05 (YPA) – Israeli occupation forces demolished the “Martyrs’ Monument” inside the Birzeit University campus north of Ramallah at dawn of Monday, after storming the campus accompanied by a military bulldozer.

Palestinian sources reported that the occupation forces stormed the university, demolished the monument, and seized it, while simultaneously raiding several facilities, deploying in its vicinity, and detaining a member of the university’s security staff.

The monument is a symbolic landmark commemorating the university’s martyrs, both students and professors, and is visited by students annually to honor their memory.

Birzeit University is subjected to frequent Israeli incursions, which include assaults on students and staff, vandalism of facilities, and confiscation of student publications, as part of targeting educational institutions in the West Bank and restricting student freedoms.
