REYKJAVIK, Oct. 01 (YPA) – The board of directors of Iceland’s state broadcaster, ROV, has announced its support for the country’s withdrawal from the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest if the Israeli occupation is allowed to participate.
According to the broadcaster’s official website, the decision was made at a board meeting on September 30, where six of the nine board members proposed that the Director General inform the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that Iceland would not participate in the 2027 contest if the occupation was not barred from participating.
The decision also reaffirms the Union’s call for the exclusion of the occupation, noting that the final decision regarding participation will depend on other decisions within the framework of the competition. It should be noted that Iceland refused to participate in 2026 amidst Israeli participation, and the 2027 competition will be held in the Bulgarian city of Burgas from May 12 to 15.
