Islah Party leaders accused of financial deductions in Shabwa

SHABWA, Sept. 27 (YPA) – Military commanders affiliated with the Islah Party have imposed on Sunday massive financial deductions on Saudi-backed factions in the Ataq Front in Shabwa province, sparking widespread anger and discontent among recruits.

Sources familiar with the matter said commanders of the Third Military Region, controlled by Islah Party in Marib city, had arbitrarily deducted large sums exceeding one-third of the personnel’s entitlements.

The deductions reportedly amounted to more than 45,000 Yemeni riyals from each recruit’s salary, in what the sources described as a blatant violation of their financial rights amid deteriorating living conditions.

The sources said regional discrimination against the Ataq Front factions was continuing, with the Third Military Region’s leadership insisting on paying their entitlements in the sharply depreciated Yemeni riyal, while other factions and military regions are reportedly paid in Saudi riyals.

The sources described this as a systematic policy of financial humiliation against residents of Shabwa.

The Ataq Front factions issued strongly worded warnings over the measures, demanding the deducted funds be returned without conditions.

According to the sources, Ataq Front recruits warned that their patience was running out over policies that they said deliberately control their monthly entitlements from Marib.

They threatened open field escalation against the Third Military Region’s leadership and rejected agendas of marginalization and deprivation.

The sources added that the payments received by the recruits had become insufficient to meet even their families’ basic needs amid severe economic deterioration and soaring prices of essential commodities.

They stressed the need for a decision to establish an independent military region for Shabwa province, which they said would free the Ataq Front from the control and oversight of the Third Military Region, which is administered from Marib for narrow partisan interests.
