Sanaa House Speaker to int’l parliaments: Red Sea navigation is safe; Saudi vessel ban tied to blockade

SANAA, Sept. 15 (YPA) – Yahya Ali Al-Ra’i, Speaker of the House of Representatives in Sanaa, sent letters to the heads of Arab and international parliaments and unions, affirming Sanaa’s commitment to the security of international navigation and trade in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

In the letters, he underscored that Yemen is exercising its constitutional and sovereign rights over its territorial waters and islands.

Al-Ra’i explained that field developments along the western coast do not jeopardize the safety of maritime corridors. He noted that the measures taken against Saudi vessels fall under the equation of “blockade for blockade, and escalation for escalation,” served as a response to Saudi targeting of infrastructure and the resulting humanitarian fallout, until the aggression ceases and the blockade is lifted.

He concluded by reaffirming Sanaa’s commitment, as a coastal authority and part of the international community, to protecting commercial shipping while maintaining a clear distinction between military escalation parties and global trade flows.
