50 Soldiers killed in armed attack in central Mali

BAMAKO, Sept. 15 (YPA) – At least 50 Malian soldiers were killed in an armed attack targeting a major military base in the central part of the country.

AFP quoted an officer present at the scene as saying that the death toll was high, noting that around 50 soldiers were killed. Another security source reported more than 60 dead and approximately 60 soldiers captured, while a local official estimated the body count to exceed 80.

In a separate development last month, armed groups launched an attack on Diori Hamani International Airport in the Nigerien capital, Niamey, and attempted to breach the security cordon around the presidential palace.
