MARIB, Sept. 15 (YPA) – Tribal gunmen launched a surprise attack on a Saudi-backed emergency forces unit on the international road in Marib province.
Local sources reported members of the Al-Jardan tribe, part of the Abida tribal group, intercepted a vehicle belonging to the Saudi-backed emergency forces at Bin Maeli market. The vehicle was carrying salaries and a large sum of money when the gunmen opened fire.
The attack killed several soldiers and wounded another, the sources said. The attackers also seized the money being transported in the vehicle.
The attack came as Saudi Arabia and its allied factions were transferring heavy weapons and equipment from Marib city to Shabwa and Hadramout provinces, amid opposition from the Abida tribes to efforts to remove weapons from the province.
