Israeli occupation supports Ethiopia’s moves to strengthen its presence on Red Sea

 ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 12 (YPA) – Israeli occupation has renewed its public support for Ethiopia’s efforts to secure permanent access to the Red Sea.

Israeli occupation’s ambassador to Addis Ababa, Avraham Neguese, confirmed Tel Aviv’s backing for the move in statements to the Ethiopian News Agency, expressing readiness to share expertise and framing the initiative as beneficial to regional stability.

This position comes amid escalating geopolitical and military competition over the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, both vital arteries for global trade.

Regional analyses view these developments as part of Tel Aviv’s broader efforts to expand its influence and establish a deeper security and strategic presence at the southern entrance to the Red Sea, leveraging strengthened ties with Addis Ababa and Somaliland.

Ethiopia—a landlocked nation relying heavily on neighboring ports—has sought for years to secure maritime access for economic and strategic reasons. These efforts have sparked regional tensions involving Somali sovereignty and the regional security balance, elevating Israeli occupation support beyond economic cooperation into a broader contest for influence over maritime shipping and ports.
