Rescue teams race to save child trapped in Algerian well

ALGIERS, Sept. 05 (YPA) – Rescue efforts continued in Algeria on Saturday to save Ayoub, a child who fell into a deep artesian well in Al-Bayadh province, in the Al-Rukn area of Al-Ghassoul Municipality, Brezina district, southwestern Algeria.

In a statement, civil protection and rescue teams are racing against time in a highly complex operation due to the well’s depth and narrow diameter, making direct access to the child nearly impossible. Rescue teams have therefore begun digging a parallel well to reach him from the side.

The operation is proceeding with extreme caution because of the rocky soil and the risk of collapses that could endanger both the child and rescue workers.

Human and material resources have been mobilized, and digging and rescue efforts are continuing around the clock.

According to Algeria’s Civil Protection authorities, experts and technicians are using heavy machinery to carry out the excavation, including specialized well-drilling equipment for vertical digging.

Manual horizontal excavation is also being conducted to reach the child, given the difficult rocky terrain and the risk of the unsupported well collapsing.
