IRGC: Super tanker catches fire after hitting sea mines in Strait of Hormuz
TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (YPA) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy announced that a super tanker caught fire and came to a complete stop after striking two sea mines while attempting to pass through an unauthorized route south of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued on Monday morning, the IRGC Navy said that the incident occurred several hours ago and warned that vessels violating the security regulations established for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz would face the same fate.
“Several hours ago, a violating super tanker that intended to pass through the illegal route south of the Strait of Hormuz caught fire in massive blazes after striking two sea mines and came to a complete stop,” the statement read.
The IRGC Navy renewed its warning that vessels violating the security regulations of the Strait of Hormuz would face the same fate as the tanker.
It stressed that compliance with regulations issued by the IRGC Navy governing passage and navigation through the strait is mandatory for vessels and shipping companies.
It also urged shipping companies not to fall for “US military provocations,” warning that doing so could unnecessarily put their vessels and the lives of their crews at risk.
