Red Cross: Thousands of families in Gaza still don’t know the fate of their missing relatives

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Aug. 31 (YPA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed that thousands of families in the Gaza Strip still don’t know the fate of their missing relatives, some for nearly three years.

In a press statement, the ICRC explained that forensic capabilities in the Strip are limited, due to the lack of specialized facilities for DNA testing, making it difficult to identify bodies.

It noted that recovering bodies requires specialized equipment that is not readily available, hindering search and identification efforts.

The Committee stated that the continued disappearance of thousands and the lack of information leave families in a state of waiting and uncertainty, at a time when search operations require significant technical and logistical resources.

It is worth noting that the Israeli occupation has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in more than 247,000 martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, and more than 8,000 missing, in addition to widespread displacement, famine, and extensive destruction.
