Yemeni woman, daughter killed in Cairo

CAIRO, Aug. 28 (YPA) – A Yemeni woman and her daughter were killed inside their apartment in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in an incident that has raised concern among members of the Yemeni community, amid uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of the crime, the identity of the perpetrator and the motive.

Sources familiar with the matter said within the Yemeni community said the victims were from Hodeida province, adding that an unidentified person broke into the apartment before carrying out the killings and fleeing the scene.

The circumstances of the incident and the identity of the suspect have yet to be established.

According to information circulating within the community, the mother had traveled to Cairo with her daughter to seek medical treatment for cancer, which the daughter was suffering from. Their medical trip, however, ended with both of them being killed inside their residence.

Community sources raised the possibility of a financial motive, suggesting that money the victims had with them to cover medical expenses may have been the reason they were targeted. However, this theory has not been officially confirmed by the Egyptian authorities.

Calls for Investigation and Accountability

Members of the Yemeni community in Egypt are calling for the investigation to be expedited and for the circumstances of the crime, the identity of the perpetrator and the motive to be established, amid concern following the incident.

The case has also prompted criticism over the level of follow-up by the Yemeni Embassy, according to community sources, with calls for diplomatic and legal action to monitor the investigation and ensure that the victims’ family receives their legal rights.

The Yemeni community is awaiting the findings of the Egyptian investigation to determine the identity and motive of the perpetrator, as well as the circumstances surrounding the break-in and the killings—an incident that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter who had traveled to Cairo seeking medical treatment.
