UK Labour Party pressures Burnham government over Gaza genocide motion, arms embargo

LONDON, Aug. 26 (YPA) – Prime Minister Andy Burnham faces mounting pressure from within the UK Labour Party to recognize “Israel’s” actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide and enforce a comprehensive arms embargo ahead of next month’s party conference, aimed at winning back progressive voters.

Labour factions are preparing to table a conference resolution calling for the adoption of UN reports, full sanctions, and a complete ban on trade supporting the Israeli occupation or Israeli settlements.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced readiness to unveil a suite of measures targeting settlement expansion in the E1 area.

The pressure extends beyond the party’s left flank, with 100 former diplomats urging tougher measures and MP Emily Thornberry demanding a ban on goods from the occupied West Bank. Burnham now faces a critical test balancing electoral strategy with grassroots pressure.
