ABYAN, Agu. 19 (YPA) – A commander affiliated with the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC)-aligned factions was targeted in an assassination attempt on Wednesday in Abyan province, southern Yemen, leaving him injured, one of his escorts dead and three others wounded.
A local source said unidentified gunmen ambushed the vehicle of Moqbel Hussein Shamba Al-Mahwari, commander of the Amrida security checkpoint affiliated with the Security Belt forces, in the Makrara area of Al-Wadea district.
The attack resulted in the death of one of his escorts, Ali Al-Saidi, who succumbed to his wounds, while four others, including Al-Mahwari, were injured.
The source added that Al-Mahwari sustained minor injuries, while three of his escorts were also wounded and taken to a hospital in Lawdar for treatment. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, amid accusations that elements affiliated with the Islah Party within the militant Al-Qaeda organization were behind it.
