Sanaa official comments on Al Jazeera analyst over Marib arms remarks after strikes

SANAA, Aug. 07 (YPA) – In remarks carrying notable implications, Hazam al-Assad, a member of Ansarullah’s political bureau in Sanaa, posted what appeared to be a sarcastic “thank you” message to Al Jazeera Yemeni analyst Ahmed Al-Shalafi over his earlier comments about the transfer of Saudi weapons and military equipment to Marib province.

Al-Assad revisited statements made by Al-Shalafi, who is affiliated with Yemen’s Islah Party, linking them to subsequent reports of air and missile strikes on military warehouses and camps in Marib.

His remarks appeared to suggest that the analyst had inadvertently disclosed information about Saudi military movements before the reported attacks.

In a post on X, Al-Assad wrote: “After Al Jazeera analyst Ahmed Al-Shalafi announced the transfer of Saudi weapons and military equipment to Marib, Al Jazeera is now reporting strikes and explosions at Saudi warehouses there.”

The comments came after reports that military sites in Marib, including Sahn Al-Jin camp and facilities belonging to the Third Military Region, were hit by air and missile strikes, with reports of casualties among Saudi-backed forces as well as damage to military equipment.

Al-Assad’s remarks have sparked questions about the nature of the information disclosed by the Al Jazeera analyst and whether his statements revealed aspects of Saudi military deployments in Marib before the reported strikes, given the sensitivity of the targeted sites and the equipment involved.

Earlier in the day, Sanaa forces announced that they would issue a statement regarding a major military operation, about 24 hours after announcing what they described as a large-scale preemptive attack targeting major Saudi military mobilizations at a series of camps in the eastern provinces of Hadramout and Marib.
