Iran official criticizes Saudi-Pakistan-Turkey defense pact, urges Riyadh to change policies

TEHRAN, Aug. 07 (YPA) – An Iranian official on Friday criticized Saudi Arabia’s policies following its signing of a joint defense agreement with Pakistan and Turkey, saying Riyadh is seeking security abroad instead of reassessing its own approach.

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, dismissed the agreement as offering only paper guarantees, arguing it would not provide Saudi Arabia with the security it seeks.

“The Saudis should know that a paper agreement with Turkey and Pakistan will not bring them security, just as years of relying on the United States failed to do so,” Rezaei wrote on X.

He urged Saudi Arabia to change its policies “so it does not have to seek security from others.”

His remarks came after the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey announced the signing of a mutual defense pact stating that an armed attack on any of the three countries would be considered an attack on all.
