Muscat leads new mediation to contain escalation between Sanaa, Riyadh

MUSCAT, July 23 (YPA) – The Sultanate of Oman announced on Thursday that it is working to revive talks on Yemen and resume the political track and roadmap, in coordination with Saudi Arabia, Yemeni parties, and the UN Special Envoy.

In a statement, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Sultanate is following “with great concern” the recent developments related to the situation in the Red Sea region.

The Omani move comes a day after Yemeni forces targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.

Over the past few days, Sanaa had announced the end of the truce with Saudi Arabia—which had been in place since 2022—following a Saudi strike on Sanaa International Airport after an Iranian aircraft landed there.

Following broad public delegation, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the imposition of a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia under the equation of “siege-for-siege,” in a step framing what they described as a natural and legitimate response to the blockade imposed on Yemen.
