Jordanian figures demand end to US military presence, call for disclosure of security pact

AMMAN, July 22 (YPA) – A group of Jordanian national, political, academic, and tribal figures issued a joint statement urging the government to end the presence of foreign forces on its territory—chiefly US troops—warning that their continued deployment poses significant security, political, and economic risks to the Kingdom.

The statement, led by former minister and parliamentarian Amjad Hazzaa Al-Majali, demanded full public and constitutional disclosure of the security and military agreement signed with the United States, including all its annexes, to review commitments affecting national sovereignty and security.

Emphasizing that Jordan is not a party to the ongoing regional conflict, the signatories called for a policy of true neutrality. They urged the government to disallow any military or logistical use of the country’s airports, ports, military bases, and strategic facilities, and to take immediate steps to safeguard the Kingdom’s sovereignty and insulate its economy and stability from adverse impacts.
